Skilled nursing facilities provide licensed nursing care and rehabilitation in a residential setting. Some people stay temporarily after hospitalization for therapy and medical treatment, while others need longer-term nursing-home care. Medicare coverage for skilled nursing is limited and subject to eligibility rules; it generally does not cover indefinite custodial care.
